The Union Budget for 2025-26 aims to accelerate India’s economic growth and unlock its full potential through a comprehensive set of reforms across various sectors, including taxation, urban development, mining, financial services, power, and regulatory frameworks. The Budget’s central focus on inclusive development is designed to empower the middle class and drive increased spending to bolster the economy.
Key Highlights:
- MSME Sector Support: The investment limit for MSME classification has been increased by 2.5 times, offering new growth opportunities for this critical segment of the economy.
- Footwear, Leather, and Toys Industry: A boost for these sectors will create 22 lakh jobs, generate ₹4 lakh crore in revenue, and help achieve ₹1.1 lakh crore+ in exports.
- Marine and Seafood Industry: The new enabling framework for sustainable fisheries in India’s exclusive economic zone and high seas will open new avenues for fish production, aquaculture, and seafood exports, strengthening the marine sector.
- Skilling and Entrepreneurship: The establishment of National Centres for Skilling, with a focus on partnerships in manufacturing, and the creation of funds for startups will promote entrepreneurship across the nation. A new scheme for 5 lakh women, SCs, and STs as first-time entrepreneurs will foster economic development in underserved areas.
- Healthcare and Urban Development: The opening of cancer hospitals in every district and the introduction of the Urban Challenge Fund will transform cities. Additionally, broadband facilities in primary schools will create new educational opportunities, fostering social consciousness.
- Water and Infrastructure: The enhanced outlay for the Jal Jeevan Mission will provide potable water to millions and further stimulate the pipe manufacturing industry.
- Energy and Environment: The ambitious target of 100GW nuclear energy production will diversify India’s energy mix and open new avenues for sustainable growth.
- Travel and Tourism: The modified UDAN scheme, along with the promotion of medical tourism, will enhance infrastructure and create connectivity to 120 new destinations, serving 4 crore passengers annually.
- Insurance and Financial Sector: The hike in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in insurance from 74% to 100% will introduce more affordable insurance schemes for citizens.
- Tax Reforms: The Budget also raises the threshold for Tax Collected at Source (TCS) on LRS remittances from ₹7 lakh to ₹10 lakh, introduces a TDS threshold limit of ₹6 lakh, and removes TCS on education loans up to ₹10 lakh from specified financial institutions, boosting educational access and spending power. Additionally, taxpayers can now claim the annual value of two self-occupied properties as nil, which will benefit the building infrastructure sector.
This Budget represents a transformative approach to national growth and development, with an emphasis on creating sustainable, inclusive economic opportunities for all.
